Hexagon birthday card and Minecraft cake

Minecraftcakecopy

Today marks the end of my Guest designing with Crazy 4 Challenges blog as June is up for me.  Kristine (June hostess) issued this challenge Hexagons (or something similarly shaped)!

Now I don’t own anything hexagon or even remotely shaped but was able to get hooked up with MFT’s Die-namics Open Hexagon Borders.

I used BasicGrey Shine On… pack for my open hexagon borders and matching cardstock too. Stamped the sentiment from Paper Pretties Make a Wish Cooper.

AmbersHexOctwhaterverajhcopy

The inside of the card, I stamped Cooper blowing out his candles.

As it is, I was asked to make the cake for the birthday boy who just happens to be getting this card. He wanted a Minecraft cake which is all the rage right now with the kiddos. I know as mine play it day in and day out. So my kids gave me tips on the cake and were even helpful in playing the game so I could get a better look at how I should design the cake. (weren’t they so thoughtful?!)

I used homemade Marshmallow fondant for my figures and covering the 2 layer chocolate cake.

I’m sure this won’t be my last Minecraft cake as I have a funny feeling that 10 yr old son will want some kind of Minecraft cake for his birthday in Sept!

Card for a Cause

DSCF6313
Today’s featured stamper is Miss Boo aka Jen. I got to met Jen way back in ‘07 at a stamping retreat so I had to do the challenge. I picked this card of Jen’s to case. I changed the image to another Thomas Kinkade image, changed colors and used a stamp for my sentiment.

CelebrateTKAjh

This card will be going into the basket that mom and I are donating to the silent auction for Paula Lowry. A big thank you to those who have donated so far. To date we have over 70 cards for the basket with more coming in! Details are below if you would like to donate.

(on Sept 23 about 6pm just a few miles from our house, Paula had walked down her driveway to get her mail (on her side of the road)...a pickup pulling a flat trailer (narrow country roads)was coming up the road, the trailer somehow came off the truck, struck Paula head on and stopped in the neighbor’s yard about 100 ft away!!
Paula’s right leg, her tibia and fibula were broken and everything from her knee down was torn away. She also sustained fractures in her back which required screws to be inserted (c4-c7) and (t1-t5). She also had a brain injury at her brain stem.
She has been through quite a bit of surgeries since then and is now breathing on her own during the day. (To read more about her day to day progress, please see
My Story) She has 2 young teens and runs the only florist shop in our town. The community is putting on a dinner and silent auction with the money all going to the family to help with doctor bills.)

If you have any cards/small altered items that you’d like to donate for the basket, we’d sure appreciate it! And of course the recipient will end up with the best ever basket!! (please include envelopes with your card) Email me at hillmanfam@woh.rr.com with Cards for Paula in the subject line and I will email you my address as I don’t wish to post it on here. We would like to have all the items by Dec.1st.

supplies: TK-It Doesn’t Get Much Better (CHF) & sentiment from MFT Let’s Go for a Walk, black ink, copics/prismacolor markers, brown, green, white cardstock, ribbon, hodgepodge

Unexpected Exciting News!

Back in '07 I sent in a few cards to a RubberStampMadness for possible publication. They picked up one but not the other. Fast forward to last month and getting an email asking a few question about the lonely card. Much to my surprise they are publishing it in their Holiday Issue.

Yesterday we got the mail and there was an envelope the size of a magazine. I looked at the return address and thought "hmmm they must have changed their names to Vamp Stamp News." But upon looking at it, none of the cards were Christmas like what I was having published. Still puzzled but knowing I had to be in it because why would I get a magazine when I don't subscribe to it......

And there on the Back Cover was my card!! I had sent it in some time last year and never heard a word from them so figured it hadn't been picked up. What a nice surprise that was to get. And here are a few pictures of the magazine with my card.

Last Quiet Coffee

Rox asked if I would like to be a guest hostess for this weeks Sketch Challenge 230 on SCS. I used a card I had gotten in a demo swap last year that I had cased as I liked the layout. Rox was kind enough to draw up the sketch for me as I am clueless when it comes to that. Here is the sketch:SC230

You  can see the original card here or the one I did back in Oct. 08. I did do a new one for the sketch.

Today is our last day of school before a long summer so I was thinking of my last cup of coffee during the peace and quiet! I used MFT’s Hot Stuff set, paper piecing the dress and coloring with Prismacolors and odorless mineral spirits.

Everything is held together with Helmar acid free glue. The cups are on Helmar Liquid Scrap dots as are the coffee bean corners. The paper is Archaic from Basic Grey.

DSCF1463

Supplies: Hot Stuff – MFT, Archaic basic grey paper, chocolate chip cardstock, Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots, Helmar Acid Free glue, Crystal Stickers, Martha Stewart doily punch

So come play with us in the sketch challenge over on SCS today. Don’t forget to put SC230 in your keywords when you upload so we can see your creation.

Check back tomorrow as I have something fun in store for you.

MFT Blog Hop - A relaxing day

Welcome to another MFT blog hop. Hopefully you came here way of Holly's blog. If not that is fine but you may want to start at the beginning which is Kim's blog. Because this hop is all about "we'll change the way you gift" so you don't want to miss out on how everyone is "Filling their Jar".

Yes, a jar. Kim is now carrying these cute little jars (set of 4) that the new stamp sets will fit. So how can a stamp set fit a jar? Well if it's a label set of course! Two different label sets are being released and I'm proud to share with you "Time for the Bubbly" label set.

I made a little gift ensemble using the label set three different times and in three different ways. First I attached it to the jar, layering it on top of Chocolate Kiss paper from MFT. The bubbles have crystal effects on them. The rug is paper pieced from the Chocolate Kiss paper. The tub and legs are layered with the tub being layered a second time. I stamped "Just for you", included in the label set, on the label. Ribbon from MFT is run through the label and tied on the side. I even decorated the top of the lid by tracing the lid and cutting out pretty in pink to match. The chocolate kiss was cut with circle scallop nestabilities.

So what is in my jar? While trying to figure out what to put in the jar, I spotted some mini heart candles that I had sitting on my mantel. Perfect! Light some candles, pour in some bubble bath and have a relaxing bath! (That is if the kids leave you alone!)

Speaking of bubble bath. I happened to have a bottle and it was pink! So using the label set, I made another matching label but this time I stamped "Bubble Bath" (included in the set) on it.

Next the gift bag.... well it has to match the theme right? So out came "Time for the Bubbly" stamp set and more Chocolate Kiss paper. This time I used Liquid Pearls on the bubbles and paper pieced the wall, mirror and rug. The tub and legs are layered with the tub having a second layer. Top Note and doily scallop punch were used. Ribbon and button are also from MFT. Made a matching tag with the label set that attaches to the bag with MFT ribbon. What a cute way to say "To & From" and still coordinate with the theme.

Close up of the tub.

A picture of the entire Gift Set:

Now I'm sure you want to go take a bath after reading all that but don't (at least not yet) as you are not finished with the blog hop. It's now time to head over to Susan's for some more ways to fill that jar!

Supplies: Time for Bubbly label set, Time for the Bubbly, chocolate kiss paper, White paper, ribbon, jar & button all from MFT, chocolate chip & pretty in pink cardstock, scallop punch, Top Note - Stampin' UP, Crystal Effects, Liquid Pearls

Happy Tails to you!

Welcome to another MFT blog hop! Hopefully you just hopped right on over here from Holly's. If not, Kim has the start of the hop if you wish to start from the beginning.

I used MFT presents Stephanie Fizer "Snuggle Bunnies" by on my card. Paper pieced the bunnies and gave them shimmer tails. Sewed the panels together with a zig zag stitch and distressed it all with chocolate chip ink.

The inside of the card I paper pieced the bunnies again and added the sentiment "happy tails to you". Once again I sponged with chocolate chip ink.

A close up of the front. Can make out the stitching some. (used cream thread and it doesn't seem to be picking up well in the photo)

Supplies used: Snuggle Bunnies, Bella Bird dsp, pretty in pink, chocolate chip cardstock, nestabilities, sewing machine, sponge, helmar quick fix runner

The following card combines the featured stamper and Try new technique. Used MFT's Birthday Flopsey set. Chocolate Kiss 6x6 Printed Paper Packs by MFT was used to paper piece Flopsey and the cake. Another piece is used for the sentiment square layer. Used the cuttlebug for the back ground but did the embossed wax paper resist, sponged on pretty in pink ink.

stamp: Birthday Flopsey; ink: black, pretty in pink; paper: glossy, chocolate kiss print paper pack, pretty in pink, chocolate chip; acc: ribbon, eyelet, helmar quick runner, artist pen

I cased myself and Blog Candy link

The 20th of every month is a challenge for the Dirty Dozen Alumni. Today, Holly was our 'hostess' and challenged us to case ourselves. The only catch was that we had to case one of our oldest uploads to SCS or one from the very first page. I went with this card. (please excuse the lack there of... it was in my early stages of stamping and I have grown so much since then ;) )

I flipped the card to fit the image I was using. Changed colors, stamp, changed one layer to the top note and add bling and ribbon.

The MFT WUW challenge this week was to try your hand at masking. I love to mask and went to town on MFT Presents Sara Williams Funky Flowers set. The flowers were colored with prismacolor pencils that were close to the Color Challenge 210 of Summer Sun, Real Red, Kraft and Black, and blended with odorless mineral spirits. I attached them to the Kraft cardstock with Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots.

stamp: Funky Flowers - MFT Presents; paper: real red, summer sun, kraft, black, white; ink: black, summer sun, real red; accs: rhinestones, ribbon, ticket punch, top note, helmar crackle medium, helmar liqud scrap dots, helmar quick runner adhesive, cuttlebug

For the vase, I used Helmar Crackle Medium that is shown below in the picture. When it was dry, I rubbed Real Red into the cracks.

I am so loving this crackle. So fast, so easy and such a strong crackle. Do you like this look? Would you like to try your hand at the crackle? Then head over to the Helmar USA Design Team blog as our fearless leader, Tracy, is giving away some crackle as blog candy!

Not only is this for the DD/DDA challenge but the 20th is Celebrate MFT day. See this thread on SCS if you would like to see how you can Celebrate MFT. And one more challenge.. this also qualifies for Sharon's blog challenge of using ribbon tabs!

To see what the other Dirty Dozen girls and Dirty Dozen Alumni girls did, check out this gallery. (this gallery is open to the public)

A Funky Flower Magnet - MFT Blog Hop

Welcome to another MFT blog hop. If you have arrived here on your own and not from Paula's blog but would like to start at the beginning of the hop, head over to Kim's blog.

I have for your viewing pleasure a sample using MFT Presents - Funky Flowers by a new illustrator, Sara Williams.

I covered a chipboard with inspire design paper. I then stamped and masked the flower over top of the vase adding some steams after all the flowers had been stamped. The flowers were colored with Prismacolor markers. I then stamped the flowers again, colored them the same way and cut them out completely. I then mounted them on top of the flowers using Helmar's Liquid Scrap Dots. Before mounting them, I went back in on the original image and using an xacto knife, cut around the steams.

For the vase, I stamped it onto close to cocoa and then covered it with Helmar's Crackle Medium. Sponging on some distress Vintage ink after the crackle had set. The vase was attached with glue dots. The entire image though is attached to the chipboard with dimensionals. A magnet was added to the back of the chipboard. (yes, it is hanging on my fridge in the picture.)

stamp: Funky Flowers; ink: black; paper: white, close to cocoa, inspire design paper; accs: prisamcolor markers, helmar crackle medium, helmar liquid scrap dots, helmar acid free glue, chipboard, magnet, xacto knife

I am sending this to my grandma for her birthday, she'll be 90 something. Hence the reason I kept it kinda simple.

This new illustrator, Sara Williams, is the sister of Susan who happens to be the next blog you are hopping to! Have fun!

Some new, some old and all that in between

Last week was MFT's release. Here are a couple cards I posted on SCS for the release plus an oldie but goodie set that i used a few weeks ago. Enjoy.

Sketch challenge218 was used here. Paper pieced her pjs and gave her fuzzy paper pieced slippers and collar. Nite Nite Ellie was released last week from MFT. $2.00 from each retail sell of this set for 6 months will be donated to St.Judes Children Hospital.

Another set released last week from MFT, MFT Presents Hooga Booga. Paper pieced the little one. Again used stamps from the set to make design paper. This sketch is from Card positioning systems105 and also color challenge208.

Birthday card for a young man. Sketch challenge217, Color Challenge207, Limited Supply209 and MFT challenge all rolled into one. Both the Limited Supply challenge and MFT challenge was to use stamps to make designer paper. Limited Supply took it one step further in that it you could only use one set and one set only to make your card. I used Icing on the Cake from MFT. The stars were faux dry embossed and middle cake is on dimensions.

Birthday invites for my soon to be 13 yr old daughter! This was also a Ways to use it... ATC's. They are small trading cards that are 3.5 x 2.5 in size. MFT's Nite Nite Ellie set was used along with JustRite's Brayton Font set.

Thank you for stopping by. I'm sorry if I don't update regularly but I have not been doing much stamping... well at least stamping that you are allowed to see ;)

2 new MFT sets

I loved today's sketch challenge214 on SCS!! So simple (that is if you make it, of course i used stuff that had to dry so my card took all day!! go figure! lol).

I used an alphabet set that is being released from MFT tonight, Bling 'Bet. There are 'spots' on the letters that allow you to fill them with 'bling' if you wish. I used cotton candy stickles to fill the 'spots'. I also cut out the letters individually and then used Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to make them different hieghts.

How do you like all that design paper?? Guess what?? It's DIGITAL!! From MFT, called Chocolate Kisses. After ordering it, you download it and there it is on your hard drive for you to use when ever you want. An endless supply of design paper!!

stamp: bling 'bet by mft; paper: chocolate chip, pink, white, chocolate kiss digital design paper; ink: distress ink; accs: cotton candy stickles, ribbon, heart charm, distressing tool, helmar liquid scrap dot

I almost didn't do the Try New Technique206, Recessed Window, as I had had a rough weekend and just couldn't wrap my head around it. So I saved it for the color challenge204A and after working on it for most of the day, I got it!! And actually love it!! (I know.. I'm crazy!! lol)

I used another MFT set that is being released tonight called Tea-Rific by Stephanie Frizer. I used watercolor crayons to color the image. I made my frame by using the scallop edge punch and cutting it to fit the window. Martha Stewart doily border punch was used on the digital paper. (yes, more digital paper from MFT, Stephanie Frizer Spring Collection digital paper)

I made the sentiment 'label' using the notched punch and artist pen for the faux stitching. Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots was used again on the primas and the 'label'.
stamp: tea-rific by mft; paper: cameo coral, old olive, creamy caramel, stephanie frizer spring digital collection paper; ink: black, cameo coral; accs: water color crayons, aquapainter, scallop edge punch, martha stewart doily punch, primas, brads, helmar liquid scrap dot

My Favorite Things (http://www.mftstamps.com/) is having a New Release Cocktail Party on Wednesday, Februray 4th from 9-10 p.m. EST. This month there are THREE new sets being released including a Who's that Girl set that is GOING DIGITAL!Head over to the MFT forum on http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/ to find out all the details and to find out how YOU can be the next MFT Guest Designer. Another Snow Day and a card

Snow Days!

The kids have been home now for 3 straight days because of the snow/ice! Yesterday they got to venture out into it to dig us out. So of course mom had to go try out her new camera with a SNOW setting!! (don't ask me what it does, happen to find it when I was trying to change it from Sport setting! lol)

Close up of Allie.

Jorden loves the snow. Yes, she has two different gloves on.. couldn't find a pair anywhere that fit her but these two!

I love this one of Benjamin. Caught him just right after he had fallen in the snow.

Little one wants to ride her bike so much that she tried her hardest to get it to go in the snow. She ended up taking it over onto the neighbor's sidewalk as it was scrapped clean!

Oldest shoveling the drive to the road.

Benjamin so happy to be helping clean off the truck. Notice the neighbor's clean, clean sidewalk in the background!

A card!

So all that snow and kids home for three days BUT I did find time to stamp today even if it took me all day to do it!

Ways To Use It 203 was to use alcohol of some sort in our stamping. I used Prismacolor Markers as I don't own Copics. Colored the soup image from Bunny Slippers by MFT. Even added some Shimmerz to the bowl, soup and steam. I have a hard time leaving a white background so I had to distress it with distress inks in shades of pinks. Used my Stampin' Up deckle scissors on the black.
Like the striped design paper? Guess what? It's actually digital paper!! Yup. Just download it after buying it and print it out yourself! Never run out of design paper. This is Stephanie Fizer's Spring Collection by MFT. Mine is printed on a semi gloss printer paper as I had hubby print it at work and forgot to send some cardstock with him!

Layout is for the MFTsketch66 today that is hosted by Frances and Cindy. Where I have the ribbon at the top of my image is suppose to be an embellishment.. I think it works!

stamp: bunny slippers - mft; paper: black, pink, green, white, digital paper from mft; ink: black, distress inks; accs: prismacolor markers, deckle scissors, paper piecer, ribbon, shimmerz, cuttlebug

I've been working on something none stampin' related that I will be posting in the next day or two. Just another one of my many crafts I have going on! :)

Blog Hop - My Knight in Shining Armor

Welcome to another MFT Release Blog Hop. Kim of MFT is starting out the blog hop so if you didn't come from her blog, head on over there, you don't want to miss out on starting from the beginning.

I decided to use the set "Good Knight". I used all but four of the sayings in the set on just this card! I did cut apart one of the sayings so that I could use just the word "My" with "Hero".

Castle and Knight are embossed in sliver embossing powder. Shield, draw bridge and flags are all paper pieced, held down with Helmar Acid Free glue. I layered the castle a few tims so it uses Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots for dimension. The knight also uses Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. The dragon was watercolored with distress reinkers. All the squares were distressed with distress inks. All the squares and background use Helmar's Quick Fix Runner adhesive. Layout is sketch challenge 182.

stamps: Good Knight - MFT; paper: black, saraha sand, dsp, silver; ink: black, versamark; accs: helmar liquid scrap dots, helmar acid free glue, helmar quick fix runner, silver embossing powder

Now head on over to Amy's blog to see her fabulous creation. Enjoy the hop!

Whooo loves you baby?

My Favorite Things is having their release this coming Wend evening. Here is a sneak peek I made yesterday but didn't get a chance to upload it. (Busy with some other deadlines ;) ) Don't forget to check out the other MFT design team members (yes, I know, i don't have them listed under the MFT button on the side... that is one of my goals to do this month!) you can also find sneaks on Splitcoaststampers in the gallery by typing in the keywords MFTJAN09.

The 'try new technique202' was to use glitter with tacky tape. I went with only two colors of glitter and made stripes on my creamy caramel cardstock. I stamped the sentiment in bewteen the glitter to finish off my 'design' paper. The owls are watercolored with distress inks and have stickles on their dots and flower. Each image is distressed around the edges and is popped up with Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. Crystal sitckers from Mark Richards are in the corners of the card. This card is VERY glitterie!! lol

stamp: owl for all season - mft; paper: pink, chocolate, kraft, dsp, creamy caramel: ink: black stazon, brown; accs: glitter, tacky tape, distress reinkers, watercolor brushes, stickles

Helmar adhesives and Warm Wishes

Look what came yesterday:
My Helmar adhesive box!! Look all the fun stuff I get to play with and share with you! If you see something in the picture that you would like me to focus on, please let me know.

For today's Inspiration challenge, I had to dig into the box and use Helmar Adhesives on my card! The adhesive that I have wanted to try the most is Helmar V2 Vellum Adhesive.

Yes! I said VELLUM Adhesive. I already had MFT's Scarf For Three embossed on Vellum Cardstock sitting on my table. Luckly the Inspiration had a snowman in it so the image was perfect to use. I sprayed on the V2 Vellum Adhesive onto the backside of the image (used markers and white gel pen to color it in) now to wait 5 minutes. The adhesive becomes "tacky" and clear. It is repositionable so if you don't lay it down straight (which i did not!) the first time, you can take it off and lay it down straight onto the Tempting Turquoise.

I then used the Permanent Adhesive Runner to attach the Turquoise to the Real Red. I wanted some dimension to the entire image so I used Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. This is a clear 3-Dimensional that you can control the dimension. It is touch dry within 10 minutes (fully dry in 48 hrs). Hard to get a good picture, it is the clear mounds in the top corners.

While it set up, I finished the rest of my card. Sentiment is stamped in distress black soot ink. Snowman charm is attached to the ribbon with gold cording. Snowflake Cuttlebug folder was used on the white cardstock.

stamp: MFT"s Scarf for Three; paper: white, real red, tempting turqouise, vellum cardstock; ink: versamark, distress black soot; accs: gold embossing powder, markers, white gel pen, charm, ribbon, cuttlebug, helmar V2 Vellum adhesive, helmar liquid scrap dots, helmar adhesive runner

Here are all the Helmar Products I used: Remove Cleaner, Liquid Scrap Dots, V2 Vellum Adhesive, Adhesive Runner - Permanent.
Wait! What's that Remove Cleaner doing in there? Well.. when I was all done with my card, I noticed sticky residue on my table. Now it may not have been from this card but on my table for some time (k, i just admitted I don't clean it off, huh?). But what a wonderful excuse to use Helmar Remove Cleaner! This Remove Cleaner cleans adhesive laden surfaces such as embroidery hoops, needles, frames, tabletops, quilting frames, stencils, screen printing pallets, etc! Not only did it take the sticking tape residue off my table but it smells like Oranges!! My area is not only clean but it smells good too!!!

Loving BC Dzyns!

MFT's new line BC Dzyns has come out with another set "and then I said". This set is being released now and if you follow the blog hop, there is a treat at the end! :) Kim's blog is the start of the blog hop.

It wasn't long after I got this set that Carmen had a birthday party to go to and requested a notebook altered. Something 'fast' she said was fine. hahaha Me? Fast? She may not care how it looked but I sure did and I always put 199% of myself into my creations. So needless to say she didn't get to take the gift to the party but had to give it to the birthday girl when she was getting picked up. Did I fail to mention that she asked for the gift the day of the party?? KIDS!!

I embossed the girl with fine black detail on white cardstock. Colored her hair with Prismacolor markers (same color as the birthday girl), used blush blossom ink for her skin. Added a little 'blush' with pretty in pink and watercolored the 'table' with chocolate chip ink.

Her shirts were paper pieced with retired SU design paper. The notebook was also covered in the same coordinating retired SU design paper. Sahara Sand cardstock was added to the side that I used the scallop edge punch on. Faux stitching around the saying and ribbon added to the side finished off the notebook.

Sorry for the little bit of bent to the upper corner of the cover. I had taken pictures of this before it was given away but wouldn't you know it, the laptop that those pictures are on is 'dead'! Carmen's friend was kind enough to bring the notebook to school so that it could come home to me to take pictures so I could be able to post it. Thank you!

stamp: and then I said; paper: white, chocolate chip, sahara sand, su dp; ink: chocolate chip, versamark, blush blossom, pretty in pink; accs: black embossing powder, prismacolor markers, ribbon, scallop edge punch

Close up of the girl

You may have been wondering why I had placed the girl over so far. Well, now you know. This notebook came with this 'strap' that came over the cover, there was no way for me to take it off so I had to make it part of the design.

Now continue your journey by visiting Cammie's blog. Enjoy!
