Happy birthday, boys.

birthdayboypirate

Time for another CHF challenge over on the Cornish Heritage Farms Blog.  This week the challenge is hosted by Me! I challenged everyone to create a masculine/little boy birthday card because today is my son’s 12th birthday and my nephew’s 11th birthday!

I used Pirate Map 1 Digital Stamp and Skull and Crossbones Digital Stamp for my card. Colored in the map with prismacolored pencils and distressed it with inks. Even ripping the bottom and crumpling up the map to make it look “old”. Also distressed the skull/crossbones.

If you would like to play along with us of course we would love to have you!
To play create a card using CHF images. You can use either CHF digi or rubber stamps to create a card or project.... anything you like as long as the stamps are Cornish Heritage Farms. (Yes, they can be older stamps.)
Once you have created your card/project come back here and place a comment with a link to your card/project to this post so that we can see what you created. If you upload your card/project to SCS don't forget to include the keyword CHF61. We can't wait to see what you create!

    What’s Happening and Cake

    recipeovalcircleajh

    Time for another CCEE Stampers challenge. Our challenge this week is a Recipe Challenge … Use 2 circles, 1 oval and two or more octagons (or hexagons/decagons) on your card.

    I used this fun set from Paper Pretties and paired it with a chicken wire background stamp I have for my hexagons. My sentiment is in 1 oval (even though it killed me not to layer it!!). Colored image with prismacolor pencil and blended with odorless mineral spirits. Used a little watercolor paint for the sky.

    Happy 40th Birthday

    purseKylacopy

    One of my good friends turned 40 this past weekend. I wanted to do something special for her and what could be more special than making her a cake. But what kind of cake? That was the hard part. I knew what wanted to do but decorating it was another thing.

    purseKylacopy

    White cake was used, three layers with the pan being an 8 inch Wilton pan. I used homemade Marshmallow Fondant tinted pink/purplish for the main part of the purse. Used a decorating wheel to give a stitched look to the flap of the purse. The trim and handle is brown MMF. For the handle, I just wrapped the fondant around some thick wire which I pushed into some coffee straws so the wire didn’t touch the cake. Then it was time to decorate the cake  (and by this time it was midnight) so I went with a layered flower and the letter K as her name is Kyla!

    As this cake was a last minute idea, I didn’t take take pictures on how to put it together etc. but will next time I make one as this was too much fun to make and I can see the endless possibilities in decorations!

    I hope you enjoyed this post as much as Kyla enjoyed finally having her own “Amber” cake (as she put it) for her birthday.

    Bridal Shower Cake and more

    bridalweddingcupcakecake

    Thought I’d share some sweet creation orders I have made in the past few weeks.

    One of the teachers at our Elementary is getting married this summer so the teachers threw her a bridal shower yesterday and ordered this fun Wedding Dress Cupcake cake from me. I used three different kinds of cupcakes, Lemon Curd, Key Lime and Strawberry. Added some bling for a high waisted belt with a few flowers. Sprinkled glitter dust over it but the shimmer doesn’t show in the picture.

    bridalweddingcupcakecake

    Last weekend was Easter and I had an order for some cute chick cookies. I used an egg shape cookie cutter and free handed the chick and egg shell. Of course I had extra dough leftover so I had to make some other Spring/Easter shapes and decorate them too.

    20140417_115635

    The week before that I had this fun cookie order for some preschoolers, Easter cookies and Birthday cookies.

    preschoolcookies

    Our school held a Carnival the beginning of the month and I was in charge of the cake walk (for some odd reason Winking smile ). I made this fun “Sunflower” Peep Cake for the cake walk. It is a yellow cake with chocolate buttercream icing. It was the first cake to be chosen when we had our first cake walk winner.

    PeepSunflowercake

    So there you have my month of April goodies! Next month starts Graduation cakes which I already have orders coming in for.

    Birthday Cakes

    kamsbday15copy

    As you know, besides cards, I like to “dabble” in cakes/cupcakes/cookies too. This past weekend I had an order for a birthday cake for a 15 yr. old girl.

    After a week of texting and pinning pictures back and forth with the mom, we settled on a cake. I love how it turned out so wanted to share it with all of you.

    8 inch top cake with a 10 inch cake underneath. Completely covered in marshmallow fondant that I make. Cowgirl hat is rice krispie covered. Hope you enjoy.

    kamsbday15copy

    Realized I never blogged the cake I made for the same family back in Jan. for their daughter who turned 18.

    3-D cupcake with an 8inch 2 layer cake underneath. Added edible shimmer to the roses, the beads and on the fondant bow. Two shades of purple was used on the cakes and a little black bead added in for a little pop of color. Another fun cake to make.

    Be Thankful

    Fallajhcopy

    Yesterday I had a post over at Craft-Dee BowZ but didn’t have time to share it here as I had goodies to get ready for my kids Harvest parties at school. So I will share all of it with you today.

    Made a Fall card using a leaf die cut, scallop border punch, white gel pen, some ribbon and of course the Craft-Dee BowZ maker. Also used some Helmar Scrap Dots when attaching the leaves and squares.

    Fallajhcopy

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    So as I was saying, the kids Harvest parties were yesterday at school and I, of course, had treat duty. After scouring Pinterest and seeing a few things on Facebook, I had my ideas.
    For second grade I made cupcakes and decorated them to look like turkeys. I love their little faces.
    turkeycupcakes1
    For fifth grade my son decided he wanted cake balls so I made some cake ball turkeys. I decided not to make them into cake pops as most are shown on Pinterest. Used white chocolate chips for their eyes and cut up Swedish Fish for the their wattle.
    turkeycakepops
    Since I couldn’t forget the teachers and I had some gingersnap cookies….. I decided to make some Pumpkin Cream Cheese Truffles (again, the right way as the first time I made them I had left out the melted chocolate in the filling. Either way is really good.), thanks to The Galley Gourmet (who I just noticed has Pumpkin Pie Fudge on her blog! Guess what I’ll be making next?!!)  for the recipe! They were a big hit with everyone that got to try them.
    IMG_20131126_105516
    And with that, I shall leave you (I have more Pumpkin Truffles to go dip for tomorrow!).
    Birthday Wishes
    Amberonecolorajhcopy
    What a week I have had! Tooth extracted, oven’s heating element decided to blow when I had a cake order! Yeah, all that so I completely forgot to get my Paper Pretties post up on Wend (as that is when the majority of the events happened. Yay me!)
    So this week’s Paper Pretties challenge is black/white and one color.  I went with red as my added color as that seems to be the kick I was on for the week. I used Cursive Greetings II and added a red layered flower cut out with Spellbinder flower die.
    How to Enter: If you would like to play along with us, all you have to do is create a card/project using the above challenge and upload it to your blog and/or to your SCS Gallery using the keyword PWC273.
One random participant will receive a Paper Pretties Stamps set … see the Paper Pretties Blog for more details.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    So in keeping with the black/white/red color theme, I thought I would share the cake I made last week. The cake that blew up my oven! Well not really but I had the cake batter already in the pan and was just waiting for the preheating to get done when I heard noises, turned around to see the inside of my oven sparking! Talk about a heart attack! I turned off the oven and freaked a little since I need to bake this cake! Thankfully I was able to make it all at my mom’s and assemble it at home. (Of course making dinners now is another challenge!)

    Back to the cake, it was a Sweet 16 Birthday cake and cupcakes. Enjoy!

    Minion Cupcakes

    Minionscopy

    Last week was the birthday of a friend of mine so I decided to make him some cupcakes. (As I had made his wife’s birthday cake the year before, so I didn’t want him to feel left out.)

    He is a kid at heart so I knew he would love some Minion Cupcakes. After doing some searching, I figured out how I was going to do them.

    Minionscopy

    They were a hit with him, his kids and the wife. Of course I had to make extras for my kids!

    Hexagon birthday card and Minecraft cake

    Minecraftcakecopy

    Today marks the end of my Guest designing with Crazy 4 Challenges blog as June is up for me.  Kristine (June hostess) issued this challenge Hexagons (or something similarly shaped)!

    Now I don’t own anything hexagon or even remotely shaped but was able to get hooked up with MFT’s Die-namics Open Hexagon Borders.

    I used BasicGrey Shine On… pack for my open hexagon borders and matching cardstock too. Stamped the sentiment from Paper Pretties Make a Wish Cooper.

    AmbersHexOctwhaterverajhcopy

    The inside of the card, I stamped Cooper blowing out his candles.
    insidehexoctcopy

    As it is, I was asked to make the cake for the birthday boy who just happens to be getting this card. He wanted a Minecraft cake which is all the rage right now with the kiddos. I know as mine play it day in and day out. So my kids gave me tips on the cake and were even helpful in playing the game so I could get a better look at how I should design the cake. (weren’t they so thoughtful?!)

    I used homemade Marshmallow fondant for my figures and covering the 2 layer chocolate cake.

    minecraftTNT

    I’m sure this won’t be my last Minecraft cake as I have a funny feeling that 10 yr old son will want some kind of Minecraft cake for his birthday in Sept!

    AmbersKnitCirclecardcopy

    Ready for another Paper Pretties challenge? And I do mean a challenge… well at least for me as I have a hard time doing… CIRCLE CARDS! Yes, that is your challenge, a Circle Card.

    I used a new digi set called Purl by ARTish. Colored with copics, used Smooches on the knitting needles. Cut image out completely and attached with glue dots. Used Spellbinder scallop circle and circle to make my card. And added a little bling and some faux stitching along with the sentiment.

    Scary treats anyone

    halloweentreatajh

    So this week over at The Lounge the challenge is to make a Spooky & Sweet treat.

    OCL138-blog-pic

    Not a problem when you have a baby shower cake order and happen to have made cupcakes with the extra batter!

    Of course it drove the family crazy that they had to wait a whole day before they got to eat the cupcakes since I had to make the baby cake first and then get the décor ready for the cupcakes!  Here is the baby shower cake… pink and purple polka dotted cake!babyshower10-12

    I used Mummy X-ing and Little Boogas on my project. Made my own cupcake wrappers out of black cardstock, colored the images with copics, cut them out completely, added stickles to the pumpkin faces and attached the Happy Halloween with pop up glue dots. The Little Boogas were cut out and attached to sucker sticks. (my icing is really a deep purple but purple is so hard to get true in pictures!)

    Play along with us this week and be entered to WIN a $20 gift certificate from  Our Craft Lounge. You have until 11:59pm Thursday, October 18th to enter.   Participate as many times as you like!   Here are the rules: use any stamps that you wish – get BONUS POINTS when you use OCL stamps!  Link to your card/project at The Lounge.  Use the challenge as your basis – do whatever inspires you, but please base it on the challenge. If you upload to SCS, please use the Keyword OCL138.  We can’t wait to see what you CREATE!

    Wanted to show another idea for a treat but these aren’t scare (well unless you are allergic to bees!). Last weekend was our Oktoberfest and a friend ordered cookies to be made with honey (that they sell) to be sold at their booth. She lent me the cookie cutters and I went to work with my magic. This is what I came up with. Made the tag using Bees Knees.

    Birthday cake and card

    amberbdayajh copy

    Time is just flying by so fast as it is time for another Paper Pretties challenge! This week we challenge you to make a Birthday card.

    I used Return of Cluck for my card. Stamped chick and sentiment below her. Colored with prismacolor pencils and blended with odorless mineral spirits. Did a little cutting out of the box with the chick.

    Cupcakes for Teachers

    teachercupcakescopy

    The aide, for my son’s classmate, asked for a few cupcakes to give to a few of the teachers for Teacher Appreciation. Of course I couldn’t just give her cupcakes without making decorated boxes for them!

    I used a cupcake box from Creative Cuts & More and School Notes from Our Craft Lounge. I stamped some of the images with Versamark onto the box. I also stamped some images, colored them with copics and cut them out and attached them to the lids with glue dots.
