About every 5 yrs or so our local library takes the Storytime program on a field trip to the local pumpkin patch. Last week was our field trip to Circle Farms. The kids get to take a hay ride through the pumpkin patch with Dale stopping and picking different kinds of pumpkins/gourds and telling about them. They then go back and get a story or two read to them and get a snack (usually a pumpkin cookie and cider). When all the activities are done, we pay our little fee and then the kids get to pick out a gourd and a pie pumpkin to bring home. They also get a coloring book on pumpkins. Here is a small slide show of our field trip.
This year, Jorden wanted to make a pumpkin pie from a pumpkin so we bought an extra one. Of course that day we had the field trip was cold and I already had the start of a cold so we didn't get the pie made until yesterday. We even made our crust from scratch! Here is the link to the recipe we used that will show you how to use a 'real' pumpkin and even has the recipe for the crust. (we used half shortening and half butter in our crust... will make sense when you read the directions) http://www.pickyourown.org/pumpkinpie.php The kids thought it was a little too runny when we ate it yesterday. But after letting it sit over night, it is perfect! I even had a piece for breakfast today!
Jorden cleaning the seads out of the pumpkin before we cooked it.
Jorden rolling out the pie crust.
Jorden mixing the pie filling. Notice our nice pie crust.
Our Pumpkin Pie (yes we had whip cream on it.. when we ate it that is) all done next to the other pumpkins Jorden got at Circle Farms.
I used today's sketch 249 to make a thank you card to send to Circle Farms for giving us a tour, etc. I used Nuts About You from Our Craft Lounge. The squirrel was colored with copics. Pumpkins, acorns, leaves are stamped on the green in versamark. (yes, the main card is green, not getting a good shot of it today and too windy to take a picture outside) The sentiment and image are on dimensions. Leaf brads instered into the ribbon.
