Okay now that all that is out of the way.. on to my card! I’ve been reorganizing my area and of course I make a card that I want to sew on! So instead of pulling out the sewing machine (as I had just put it away that day), I pulled out the good ole thread and needle and did the sewing by hand. I used Pink Paislee paper and the piece under the donkey is from a sticker book by Pink Paislee. The main card uses DoubleMates cardstock.

I used prismacolor pencils and blended it with odorless mineral spirits. I printed the image out again and colored just the head. Cut it out and attached it to the body using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dot so that there is some 3D look to it. Sponged in blue ink for the sky and green ink for the grass. Shadow was added with a gray copic marker.

I used Mercy’s Tuesday Sketch for my layout and also for Fab ‘n’ Funky Challenge of using a digi image.

Please stop by each of the Sew Many Cards design team members blogs and leave a friendly comment, and be sure to leave us an email or link to your blog when you finish the hop at our challenge blog!!
Your next stop in the hop will be Kym B. If you lose your way the list is at Sew Many Challenges.

Here’s to a Crappy Day!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I want to show you a card I did during my 1st month as a Dirty Dozen Girl for SplitcoastStampers back in Dec‘08. The theme that month was Obscure Holidays and yes, I had to wait until now to show it as it is only good for today. Why? Because Jan.27 is Thomas Crapper Day. He invented the flushable toilet! Thank goodness for Thomas Crapper! LOL

BUT Jan 27th is also my middle brother, Timothy’s, birthday.
TimHe is the comedian and artist in the family. You can see his amazing art work here at my mom’s PictureTrail.

He wasn't too thrilled when I told him what 'holiday' shares his birthday. In fact he is the one that said "Here's to a Crappy Birthday". So in honor of Thomas Crapper and my brother, I made him a "crappy" birthday card.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The toilet paper, Running Sick, is from Craft Lounge . The party hat, balloons and present are from the set, Lil' Pea-Nut also by Craft Lounge. Markers were used to color in the images that were stamped on watercolor paper. Used aquapainter to shade the markers. Applied Sky Blue Shimmerz to balloon, present and hat. All images are up on dimensionals. The frame is from Creative Cuts & More.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Sentiment was spelled out with JustRite Brayton font and Harmony classic. Crystal Jewel Bling was added on word window punch and sentiment. Used white gel pen to add faux stitching and dots.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

He hung it with pride on his refrigerator, I wonder if he still has it up!

Don’t forget to wish everyone a “Crappy” Day! And Happy Birthday to my bro, hope it’s not a ‘crappy’ one this year!

Supplies: Running Sick & Lil' Pea-Nut by Craft Lounge, JustRite's Brayton font & Harmony Classic, so saffron, blue, flurries & frost dsp, watercolor paper, black stazon, markers, shimmerz, white gel pen, dimensions, crystal jewel bling, word window punch, frame die cut

SMC Challenge – Color Challenge

BeMInewheelbarrowajhcopy
It’s time again for another Sew Many Cards Challenge. This time it is a color challenge: PURPLE, WHITE & a splash of BLACK.

                  red_logo

Our sponsor this week is Cosmo Cricket with a Cosmo Cricket prize of Jolly by Golly Crafting Kit.

Jolly_By_Golly
Come play with us for a chance to win!

My CHALLENGE CARD:

I love this color combo but have a hard time photographing purple so please bare with me. I used the Friday Freebie from Sew Many Cards that you can find on their Challenge blog (or just click on their name as it will take you right to their blog).

I used the sketch from CPS this week for my layout. I colored the image with prismacolor pencils and then blended with odorless mineral spirits. Black sparkly gel pen was used for all the patches. I added crystal effects to the wheel and to the hearts for some dimension. All the hearts are purple. I grabbed a sentiment from Lola Love (Our Craft Lounge) and stamped it in the corner and colored it in purple to match. I went over the sentiment with a clear sparkly gel pen for some subtle bling.

On the white cardstock, I used the love swirls wheel in purple. Cuttlebug’d the purple cardstock with the Swiss Dot folder. I wanted heart buttons for the sides but didn’t have any in my stash so I decided to revisit an old Try New Technique239 5-Layer Button. I took the heart from Eris the Elephant (see post below) and made it smaller before printing just the hearts out. Colored them with prismacolor pencils and odorless mineral spirits. I faux sewed them on and attached them to the cardstock with Helmar Gemstone Glue. My splash of black comes from under the image and as the main card.

Supplies used: wheelbarrow of hearts, eris w/hearts (Sew Many Cards), Lola Love (Our Craft Lounge), Love Swirls wheel, purple/black/white cardstock, prismacolor pencils, odorless mineral spirits, crystal effects, cuttlebug, gel pens

Eris the Elephant for Valentines Day

EllaVdayredwhiteajhcopy
It’s been a while since I’ve done the SCS sketch challenge264. But this sketch called out to me and I think it will become one of my favorites to use over and over and over again.

I decided to use Eris the Elephant from
Sew Many Cards for my card. I used copics to color her and applied Crystal Effects to her toe nails and the balloons. I also cut her out of the box. Sentiment is from Our Craft Lounge Pea-Nut set. Entire image is on Helmar ZapDots. Vellum cardstock was run through the cuttlebug and attached to the black using Helmar V2 Vellum adhesive. On the red cardstock, I used a heart background stamp in red. The middle strip is ribbon (that I've had in my stash for ages) layered on black cardstock.

EllaVdayredwhiteajhcopy
supplies used: Eris w/hearts (Sew Many Cards), Pea-Nut (Our Craft Lounge), misc heart background stamp, red/white/black cardstock, vellum cardstock, ribbon, crystal effects, Helmar zapdots & V2 Vellum adhesive, cuttlebug

XO I love you SMC challenge

closeupHLK

I’m a little behind in posting for Sew Many Card’s Friday Freebie as I became sick for a few days. I’m still not 100% but still wanted to get a card made and posted.  I stayed with SMC’s challenge of Anything Goes. (all details can be found at SMC’s challenge blog, don’t forget to become a follower of their blog… never know when they’ll offer extra goodies!)

Not only does my card fit for SMC’s challenge but also for SCS’s Try New Technique255 Scratch ‘N Sniff, Inspiration215 (inspiration piece I went with), Featured Stamper154 (jdmommy, cased this card of her’s. changed colors and made my square layer go on the outside of the strip instead of under and stuck my image completely on the square).

SMC’s Friday Freebie was a heart lock with key. I decided to color it red (in honor of jdmommy) and then emboss. I mixed Strawberry Starfruit Kool-Aid with clear embossing powder for the heart. Whoever receives this card just has to scratch the heart to release the smell! I cutout the key hole, the key and the patch. Colored the patch and the key and then popped them up using Helmar  BLACK ZapDots. The handle of the lock is also on ZapDots. I threaded a ribbon through the lock and secured it with a heart brad. Cuttlebugg’d the black with the heart folder.

closeupHLK

I decided to play around with the digital image to make background paper too! I made the image smaller and placed it in different positions in Adobe Illustrator before printing it out. I printed it out onto cardstock and colored them with prismacolor pencils and odorless mineral spirits. Used black sparkly gel pen on the patches and clear sparkly gel pen on the key.  Used scallop punch border on the red and used clear sparkly gel pen to add dots to the scallops. The XO is a Design Adhesive from Clearsnap. All I did was stick it on to the red and sprinkled red glitter from Stampendous onto it.

Don’t forget to check out Sew Many Cards challenge blog next Friday to see what the challenge is and to get your Friday Freebie. I know you’ll love it.

Also check out Helmar’s blog for a give away on the very ZapDots I used above!

Let it Snow with SMC challenge

PJSnowglobeajhcopy
Welcome to SMC (Sew Many Cards) Friday Challenge. The theme for this week is ANYTHING GOES IN THE NEW YEAR!! Please use a Sew Many Cards image for your project or card and use any techniques, colors, or theme!! Check out the NEW Sew Many Cards Challenge Blog where each challenge will be listed every Friday. Hope you can join in the fun as we have a sponsor this week :
http://stampsalive.blogspot.com with a fun prize: CUTTLEBUGS COMBO FOLDER...DAMASK....$15 value.

So for my Anything Goes… I went with a shaped card and paper piecing. I’m not big into shaped cards but with this image it was super easy! I also paper pieced PJ’s scarf and ice skates, which I learned an easy way from Mel Stampz. (THANK YOU!)
DSCF7142 I attached the paper pieces with Helmar ZapDots.

The rest of PJ, I colored with copics. Used a clear sparkle gel pen on the snowflakes and brushed Shimmerz over the entire globe.

PJSnowglobeajhcopy
Look how easy that was to make a shaped card? I just folded the paper in half and cut the globe out but stopped short at the top leaving about 1/2 inch still attached for the back flap. Now I realize that Copics bleed through so I attached another piece of white cardstock on to the back and cut it to shape of the globe and it completely covered up the copic bleeding.

Also Fridays will be the day you get a FREE image to play with (which will make it easy for you to use your free image in the new challenges)-Sew don't forget to check out Sew Many Challenges where you'll find Friday's Freebie image, don't forget to become a follower as you never know what they'll have in store for you. And while you are at it sign up for the newsletter HERE . Check back later on in the day to see what I have done with the ‘freebie’ image.

Supplies: PJ digital image, copics, misc design paper, white cardstock, Shimmerz, glitter gel pen, Helmar ZapDots, scissors

Woke up to a Hoar Frost

A Hoar Frost is when fog freezes. (3 degrees (-16C))  I love waking up to mornings like this. The world is a beautiful place and you just want to go OUTSIDE to take pictures. Of course I didn’t have time this morning as I had to get everyone ready for church but on a hunch, I grabbed my camera on the way out and managed to get some great pictures on our way to church. (around 10:30am)  Keep in mind that all these pictures were taken out through the front of the van. Can I just say my camera is awesome?? Can’t tell there is a windshield there!
Cemetery The entrance to the Cemetery. Is it weird to say the cemetery has never looked so more beautiful?

Sew Many Cards Blog Hop with candy!

BearLoveajh
Welcome to my first blog hop as a design team member with Sew Many Cards. Each one of us on the team is showcasing a project using one of Angela’s new images!! SEW MANY CARDS is starting off our blog hop so if you didn’t come from there first… feel free to go back there, I will wait for you.

Here is my card using Angela’s image “Bears in Love”. I printed the image 3 times, colored them all the same using copics and cut them all out but one image. I made a faux layer on the “main” image using a black marker and a ruler. Then I layered the other two cutouts on top using
Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. Before I layered the final heart on, I painted some Angel Wings Shimmerz on it. I also sponged on some pink ink in the corners of the white cardstock just to give it some more depth.

BearLoveCloseup

I used some misc Valentine design paper for the background. Added a ribbon which i threaded through a flower ‘ribbon’ brad and then layered the whole thing onto brown cardstock.

More Knifty Knitter projects

DSCF7091

Thought I’d share a few more pictures of the other scarves I made for Christmas presents. I’ve been getting a few questions on the Knifty Knitters so I thought I would show you what they look like. I have a couple different sizes of the Long Looms and these are the two I use the most for the scarves.

 DSCF7090
My brother’s scarf on the yellow loom. I added tassels to this when it was all done and completely forgot to get a picture of it all finished!

DSCF7092
My favorite size of Long Loom to use for scarves just because it is small.. only 12 pegs long.
  MichellesGREYscarfcopy

I made this grey scarf for one of my friends. She had no clue she was getting it and was pleasantly surprised when the mail was delivered that day as she had had a very rough day.

Last but not least is my favorite out of all I've made so far. It isn’t because the set was made for my son. I made him a striped hat in one of his favorite team’s colors… orange and black…. Bengals! I then tried a different way to make his scarf and love how it turned out. Sorry I didn’t get a picture of it while on the loom so you could see how it was done.

BengalBencopy

I am currently working on a scarf for myself (finally!) so stay tuned.

And don’t forget to come back tomorrow… BLOG HOP for Sew Many Cards!!

Welcoming 2010 in with a new Design Team !

HalenQuiltingajhcopy

I haven’t posted since last year! haha I know.. that joke gets old so fast! So what do I have in store for you this year? Well hopefully a lot more stamping and less sickness!! (well one can hope!)

I am excited to share with you this card I did this morning for the Try New Technique254 (man it felt good to get back into the SCS’s challenges!), I even combined it with the Featured Stamper152. The technique was to do some paper quilting. I picked a quilt design called Pineapple to use. I also changed the image, colors to the FS card I cased.

What’s so exciting about this card is it’s a digital image from Sew Many Cards and I am now a member of their design team! So without further ado… here is my card:

HalenQuiltingajhcopy

Isn’t that image too cute! This Halen the Hare and it looks like she was playing in her mommy’s jewelry box. Check out that bling around her neck! I added rhinestones to the necklace image to make her sparkle. Entire image is colored in with copics. I added some “Pool” Smooch (pearlized accent ink) to her patches. I used a circle coluzzle to cut her out, leaving her feet and some of her hat to hang out over the edge. The design paper I used for the quilt and background is from Dream Street Paper and were attached using Helmar Quick Fix Adhesive Runner. Halen and the nestabilitie is attached to the card with Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to give it some dimension.

I can’t wait to bring you more goodies from Sew Many Cards. Thank you for being with me through this exciting new journey and through the rest of this year.
