Cowboy Mounted Shooting

Friday night the entire family (minus a few family members) went to a Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association show. (Mounted contestants compete in this fast action timed event using two .45 caliber single action revolvers each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared blank ammunition. ) My dad saw something at State Fair about it, looked it up and found a showing that was about an hour away from us and thought it would be fun for all of us. You can read all about it here and maybe find one in your area to watch. The kids had a great time. Here are a few pictures from it. Enjoy.

Warm and Fuzzy feelings for Baby

Today's Ways to Use It 232 was to add "fuzz" to our project. I decided to make a baby card as I am attending a baby shower this weekend hadn't made a card for my gift yet.

I pulled out Flourishes "Rock A Bye Baby" as it is the only baby set I have. (think I need to buy some more baby sets!) I knew I wanted to use Flower Soft on the baby's blanket to make it look all fuzzy. I colored the image with prismacolor pencils and blended with odorless mineral spirits, cut out the entire image and then added the Flower Soft.

I remembered I had some fuzzy white paper that had been sent to me so I paper peiced the moon. The image is on dimensions. The design paper is from DCVW Nana's Nursery baby girl and I used Spellbinder's scalloped square to cut them out. The paper has glitter on it so I picked Shimmer White cardstock as my main card and as the piece behind the moon.

The sentiment is also stamped on Shimmer White and then punched out with SU's oval punch. I sponged pretty in pink ink on it. Layered it off the poka dotted green which is on dimensionals. I used the Bow Easy to make my bow.

I wanted a different color to put behind the card to make the colors pop more when I happened to look at the gift I had picked up for the baby and what do you know? It was almost the same colors! With the help of my 3yr old (holding up the dress), I used the outfit as the background setting. The card is actually sitting on the matching undies!

Supplies used: Flourishes - Rock a Bye Baby, pretty in pink, barely banana, shimmer white cardstock, fuzzy white cardstock, DCWV Nana's Nursery baby girl, Flower Soft, ribbon, oval punch, spellbinders, black ink, prismacolor pencils, odorless mineral spirits

New look, 1st place Llama and a Castle Cake

Were you wondering where you were at for a moment? Do you like it? I gave my blog a MAKEOVER all by myself! Well I did have some help from Shabby Blogs where all the backgrounds, buttons, dividers etc are FREE!! If you jazz up your blog using her stuff, drop me a line so I can check out your makeover. I had so much fun doing mine, I might have to give it a makeover every other month! lol

1st place Llama

Remember me telling you my girls were in 4-H this year and that my oldest took llamas? She took 1st place in Jr Showmanship and also took Junior Champion! Here she is with Freddie and her winnings:CarmFreddieTrophy2-web

Not only did she walk away with those titles, but she also made the front page of the news paper for the county over and the article was also online which you can read here. This is the picture that was in the paper, it was taken during Jr Showmanship.
CarmenFreddie
It’s hard to believe she is only 13 as she looks so much older in these pictures! My baby is growing into a fine young woman! And as for Freddie, he is going to another home this week as he was sold to be a guard llama. We figured he wanted to leave the farm with a “bang” and he did! We’ll miss you, Freddie Falcon!

Castle Cake

So last week I was asked if I could make a “princess” castle cake for a little girl turning 4. Now I had made one way back in my early cake stages so I went with the same idea but tweaked it some.

This is a 2 layer 10 inch round cake. Cones were iced with only the sugar cones being rolled in pink sugar. Windows go all around. Edible glitter was sprinkled on. $30.00

Aww Nuts

I haven’t done Beate’s weekend sketch in forever. Liked today’s layout so I decided to do it. I used Our Craft Lounge’s set, Nuts About You.

Colored with prismacolor pencils and blended with odorless mineral spirits. Used atyou Spica black glitter pen on his nose, eye and top of nut. Stamped nuts in versamark on the really rust layer while the wording was stamped in distress walnut ink. Circle nestie was used as was SU’s scallop border punch.

A few days ago I decided to create another Christmas card using Jolly Ornaments also from Our Craft Lounge.

Stamped the ornaments in versamark and embossed with silver. Cut out the middles with an xacto knife and placed paper from the DCWV Christmas Matstack behind them. Embossed the ribbons in clear embossing powder and added faux stitching. Layered onto Bravo burgundy and stamped wording in Bravo Burgundy.

4-H Rosette winner and Garden Pictures

Both my girls are in 4-H, Allie took Sewing and Home Improvement while Carmen only took llamas. She is showing today at the fair which is also the last day of the fair. I’m betting she sleeps all weekend as she was at the fair late all week keeping an eye on the llamas.

Allie got her first Rosette this year and it was on her Home Improvement project. She altered a picture frame (which I forgot to get a picture of) and altered a white board into a ribbon board.  She found jean material in my material stash that was just the right weight. She then picked out white ribbon, pink primas and I pulled out my Flamingo brads and Helmar 450 Adhesive for her to use. We didn’t have to buy a single thing for her projects which was good as the theme this year for 4-H was  “Go Green”!

Here is her project hanging up at the fair. She had to fill it with pictures that had her in it of course! Can you believe it is all held together by Helmar 450?! She putting batting in the middle to give it some poof, the brads go through the ribbon into the material. All in all I thought she did a good job and she was excited that she won her first Rosette (and got an extra $3.00 for it!! lol).

Went up to our garden yesterday (we plant at my mom’s as we have a little yard here in town) and took some pictures of Jorden’s,3, sunflowers she planted.

Here she is standing in front of her sunflower that is OVER 9 ft tall!!DSCF2940

All the sunflowers in a row. Funny how they are not all blooming at the same time when they were all planted at the same time. The jungle in the background is our garden.

I love how this picture turned out. I was laying on the ground and zoomed in to get it. This is the 9+ footer sunflower.

Over in mom’s garden, a volunteer pumpkin is growing. What is so funny is that it’s growing in with the tomatoes and grew right up in the tomato cage! (and yes her tomato plants are that big)

OCL blog hop with BLOG CANDY!

Welcome to another Our Craft Lounge blog hop. Have you enjoyed the sneak peeks of all the sets for the past three days? Well today you have a chance to see them all again and a chance to win ONE of the sets. To see what the rest of the amazing design team and special friends have come up for you, please see Our Craft Lounge’s own blog THE LOUNGE for all the links.

Now, I did say win one set, each blog is giving away a set but you are only allowed to win ONE TIME.

Alright, enough of my rambling and on to my card. GIVING THANKS is the set I have up for grabs today. I decided to make my card with a little bit of untraditional fall colors as i added in purple to my leaves. (I’ve never seen a purple leaf fall from my trees before.)  Image was colored with prismacolor pencils and blended with odorless mineral spirits. The bow and the acorns are layered and popped up and the entire image is popped up. I then bent the word “celebrate” a little (as this set is only in acrylic) to stamp around the half circle. I stamped the single acorn and colored him in with prismacolor pencils. I didn’t blend the pencils as I liked how it picked up the texture of the paper I used. This is also sketch challenge198.

The design paper is becoming one of my favorites and is DCWV Latte matstack.

Day 2 of OCL Sneak Peeks

Hello! Today I have a sneak peek at Thankful Flourishes that is being released from Our Craft Lounge.

I love the elegance of this set, the flower, the flourishes, the wording… Love it!! I love it so much that I wanted to keep it simple by striking for my first card. I used only black ink and only colored in the flower using Prismacolor pencils blended with odorless mineral spirits. Masking was done with the flower and ‘leaves’. The 2 ‘flourishes’ I eyeballed in place and love how they look like one stamp.

Card #2 – Color Challenge 230 of Close to Cocoa, Blush Blossom, Certainly Celery, Cameo Coral (Optional), Whisper White (Optional)

This time I used the Top Note die to layer my flowers on. The flowers were stamped on watercolor paper and colored with markers and a little water to reduce the color. The middle of the flowers is another stamp and is popped up. The middle flower is popped up also.

Sneak peek and Our Craft Lounge blog!

I am finally here with a sneak peek of one of the 31 brand new sets that Our Craft Lounge is coming out with!

I used Jolly Ornaments to make my first Christmas card for this year! (Only 99 million Christmas cards left to go! lol) I love Christmas and these ornaments are too sweet. There are also a handful of sentiments that come with the set along with more ornaments.

The ornaments are popped up over themselves with faux black layer. And the squares themselves are on dimensions. Glitter gel pen was used on the ornaments to give some sparkle. The saying also has a faux layer. The gold ribbon is from last year's Christmas ribbon at Joanns.. got it on clearance for pennies after Christmas!

Jolly Ornaments - Our Craft Lounge, DCVW Christmas MatStack, Wild Wasabi, Ruby Red, Black, Gold ribbon, pop dots, glitter gel pen

Cow Cake

What has started out as making cakes for my kids with a few baby showers thrown in and once in a blue moon wedding cakes is turing into a little more now! I love making cakes and love sharing my cakes on here or on my facebook.

So imagine my surprise when fellow classmates are sending me messages via facebook wanting cakes! If you remember, I made this cupcake cake last month for a classmate's daughter. ($1.50 per cupcake)

And then the beginning of last week I got another request, from a lady who goes to storytime with us and graduated with my brother, wanting a cake for her soon to be 8yr old daughter. Ally, the little girl, wanted a cow holding flowers with a butterfly on it's head on her cake.

Here is what I came up with: (Images are different coloring pages that I pieced together. )
11x15 sheet cake for $40.00
