Ohio State Fair winner

My oldest, Carmen, belongs to a Llama 4-H club. Yes, it is my mom's 4-H club (for those that don't know my mom, DawnL, she owns llamas.). They showed at the State Fair this past weekend. Carmen came home with not one but two Trophies plus a few other ribbons!! She also gets to go back to the State Fair on August 7th for her 4-H project of cooking as she got picked from her catagory to represent Champaign County!

Carmen and Freddie won Champion Jr. Showmanship

Carmen won Reserve Champion Junior Youth Performance and Ryan won Grand Champion Junior Youth Performance! (Ryan also belongs in Carmen's 4-H club.)

Hoo-ppy Birthday!!

Oliver Owl is back with a Hoo-ppy Birthday card. Today's Limited Supply was to make a birthday card with limited layers of 4 and ink/paper/ribbon only!! I paper pieced Oliver right down to his little beak! I used Helmar Scrap Dots on his beak and the branches/leaves... which if you look closely you'll notice that the leave moved off the image.. that is why you let the scrap dots DRY before handling!! lol

I made the card a Joy Fold card with the sentiment holding the brown "card" shut. In making the Joy fold card, Oliver also qualifies for last weeks Limited Supply of different folded cards! :)

stamps: Oliver Owl, Hoo-ppy Birthday - Treehouse Stamps; ink: black, paper: brown, river rock, DCWV Old World mat stack; accs: small rounder punch, glue dots, dimensionals, scrap dots (Helmar)

Now I am head out to my jungle Vegetable garden that wasn't weeded while i was gone. If you don't hear from me in a few days, you may want to send out a search party!!

Last of the CHA pictures!

Here are the last of my CHA pictures. Hope ya'll haven't been too bored with them.

Thanks to Tracy for sending me a picture of proof that we did get filmed while doing the make 'n take at the Helmar booth. (Thanks to Mark for taking the picture.)

(notice the little baby in the background that Lisa Johnson is holding? That is Katy. She was the sweetest thing there as I sat beside her doing Lisa's make 'n take! Her mom is Mandy of Limelight Papercrafts which I didn't know until I got home!)

Darn computers and a couple of cards

I had two cards to share last night but also wanted to watch a movie at the same time. No biggie, just take the laptop with me over to the TV. Yea, right! Stupid thing couldn't even last two seconds on battery before it died on me and didn't have enough power until later last night to boot up! So here are two cards that I made yesterday for yesterdays' different challenges!

First off it was Ashley's BrainWave Challenge yesterday. She went with a sketch. (sorry, no presketch this time, you will have to go by my card) Keywords for SCS are BWC16 if you decide to play along.

I used Creepy Crawly that will be released from Treehouse on August 7th. I colored the hat with Prismacolor pencils and oderless minerals. Had to add some google eyes to the spider. Made my own pattern paper by stamping the spider and the words EEK on the textured orange cardstock. Happy Halloween is just one of the sentiments that comes with the set. The bling is from KaiserCrafts that i managed to get at CHA this past weekend.

Next we have the sketch challenge (SC186) combined with the color challenge (CC176 - River Rock, Soft Sky, Very Vanilla) from SplitcoastStampers. More sneak peeks of Treehouse stamps that will be released on August 7th. Oliver Owl and What a Hoot!

I watercolored Oliver with River Rock ink. Added just a tad bit of Old Olive and Creamy Caramel for the branch/leaves. Sponged Soft Sky on all of the Very Vanilla pieces. Weathered is stamped in River Rock on the Very Vanilla. Added some Vanilla ribbon to the Soft Sky cardstock to finish off the card.

Stamp credits:
Creepy Crawly - Treehouse; orange, green, black, white cardstock; black ink; prismacolor pencils, oderless minerals, ribbon, google eyes, rhinestones.
Oliver Owl, What a Hoot! - Treehouse; river rock, very vanilla, soft sky, black cardstock; black, river rock, soft sky, old olive, creamy caramel ink; ribbon, sponge, aqua painter.

Make 'n Take CHA pt2

I'm back with part two of the make 'n takes I did. So go grab another cup of coffee and sit back.

Make 'n Take that mom and I did. Loving these plastic see through paint cans. So many possibilities. And we even got a can opener to go with our cans.

A display in the Stampendous booth.

Taylor demoing at the JustRite booth. Can you guess what we got to eat after we were done with our card? a Cupcake!!

Cupcake card that we made at the JustRite booth.

Cupcake card open.

Of all the make 'n takes, the following was the funniest one. And no it didn't have anything to do with the Boss man having an yummy Aussie accent!! ;)

This is Tracy. We were in her last class of the day. She was in the Aussie booth of Helmar products(awesome stuff). Right before our class, she was interviewed and filmed by Making Memories magazine! The film crew even filmed the start of her class which of course we were in! How exciting is that?! And since we made Tracy look good for her segment she gave us a few of the products that we worked with. Thank you, Tracy!

Aussie Bush Tucker book using different adhesives from Helmar. We used Liquid Scrap Dots to adhere the bottle cap. (I actually did mine at home as the Scrap Dots take a little time to do dry and I didn't want to squish it in my bag at CHA.) 450 Stainless Adhesive on the burlap and the material circles.

Used Gemston glue to glue down the glass stone. Gemston glue dries CLEAR with no cloudy residue. Amazing, amazing stuff.

Pocket inside the booklet holding cards on Lemon Myrtle, Witjuti Grub and Honey Ant. The boss man sprayed V2 Vellum adhesive on the pictures and we just stuck them straight on to the cardstock. (of course we made him say something when he handed us the cards just to hear him talk!) The stuff was Awesome!! Gemstone glue was used to adhere the beads down.

Two tags in the "side pocket" of the booklet. One of the tags does use Vellum and you can't see the V2 Vellum adhesive at all!
More still to come as I have more pictures of the SCS cupcake reception and a few make 'n takes that I forgot I had.

Make 'n Takes from CHA pt1

Grab a cup of coffee (or whatever you feel like drinking) and take a seat as it may be a long read today. I have tons of pictures to show of the different make 'n takes that I did at CHA that I may have to break this up into two different posts! So are you ready?

Let's start with Provo Craft. Awesome, awesome, awesome make 'n takes. So awesome in fact that you had to wait almost an hour in line to do one. I managed to hit the lines when they were short so I usually waited only 30 mins. They had two different stations up and each day they were both doing something different.

I did this frame on Friday. Didn't finish it all as there was way too much to glue down so i stuffed it all in my bag and went onto another booth. You'll never guess where I finished it!*

I had to do this one on Saturday as it wouldn't be fair to go home to my son without a frame for him...and being CARS...well, you get the idea. This time I glued all the pieces together at the Provo Craft booth, just didn't put them on the frame as they were too wet still. I had to add in the road lines myself because they didn't get to that part. The lady said why but I was a little too far back in the line to hear why all the frames didn't get the lines.

You just never know who you are going to run into at CHA. Elmo was in the Provo Craft booth so I had to get a picture for my little one who loves Elmo. (this is a picture of the picture as they took it for you and put it in a little paper frame) She has been carrying around the picture since I got home saying "mommy, Elmo". Provo Craft also had drawings every hour on the hour for Circuts and cartridges etc... did I ever win?? NO!! :(

I managed to hit the Fiskar booth on Friday when the line was short for a pair of limited edition Li'L Davis Designs scissors! The tag has the signatures of the creator and I also got my picture taken with them. Unfortunately it isn't that good of a picture so you will not be seeing it unless I do a scrap page with the tag and picture. You never know.

Here is the make 'n take that Lisa Johnson was demoing. I got to use HER set to stamp on the bag. (and darn it, now i want it!!) We used DecoFabric markers by Marvy to color in the images and Puffy Velvet Fabric markers (when heated) to outline (or at least I did) the images. Notice I double stamped the one flower, wonder where I learned that? lol (Lisa's blog in case you were interested)

Got to play with one of the new dies coming out from Spellbinders. So fun and pretty. Can't wait for mom to get it so i can go make some more sunflowers!

Covered this little booklet. The interesting thing was they had us bind the book. How? Don't ask me, all i know is we had to set the binding edge on a magnetic strip that just held the book and in 90 seconds the pages were bind. And silly me forgot to get a business card and so far I can't find them on the web so if you went to their booth and have a web addy, please let me know. I also got a Princess jewelry box from them that i brought home for Allie to put together. Once she has it together, I will post that too.

This little frame was the second funnest booth! Why you may ask. Well Mike that was working that day had made a frame too right before mom and I got there. So we were giving him a hard time about the flowers etc. Than we only had to add on the flowers and Sue wanted to go to lunch so she left Mike in charge. So we had fun ribbing him but believe me, he could dish it back out. Lots of laughs at that booth.
*I finished the frame in the car on the way home! No, I didn't take any stamping supplies with me so how was i able to finish it? I used a great product that called Acid Free glue from Helmar that we had been given samples of. But all of that will be in Part 2 of the Make 'n Takes from CHA!

Home from CHA

We (mom and I) made it back from CHA (Craft and Hobby Association Trade Show) early, early, early this morning!! I should be tired but I think I'm still floating on all the talent I met and saw and got to do!

Nice rainy Saturday picture of the Convention Center from the parking garage before heading in for a fun filled day.

Carolyn King and I at the SCS Cupcake Reception. (That's Daven's shirt in the background!!)

Deborah Anton and I having our picture taken with Laura Canale jumping in to the picture in the background! She loved doing that and we wouldn't have known if Mom (the photographer) hadn't started to laugh! (SCS Cupcake Reception)

I had to get a picture with Jenn Balcer! She is such a sweetie. I had the pleasure of talking with her a few different times. (SCS Cupcake Reception)

Another one of my idols. I had to do the Marvy make 'n take once I realized it was Lisa Johnson!!! (will post a picture of the make 'n take tomorrow) Isn't she beautiful and thin!! She is such a sweetie in real life as she is on her blog.

Michelle Giraud (Flaxychick) is such a cutie! Between her and Laura, I was in stitches the entire time. (I'm sure Laura was probably trying to jump in this picture too but I think my photographer was quicker this time!) (SCS Cupcake Reception)

I got to met Nicole Heady on Thursday evening when I was chilling out with the MFT gals. We all had to get our picture taken with her.

Taylor is my cupcake buddy! (It's her fault that I have the 3-d cupcake pan as she had put it on her blog way back when.) I even got to do a make 'n take with Taylor that I will post tomorrow. Care to guess what it was? :) (SCS Cupcake Reception)

Sharon aka NoTimeToStamp is my best buddy!! lol K, so there is a story there... My mom (DawnL)had met her on Thursday and Sharon had no clue who my mom was. (snicker) When I met Sharon on Friday at CHA, she knew me right away without even reading my name tag!! Thanks for making my day, Sharon! (SCS Cupcake Reception)

Last but not least is the man behind the reason that all of us on SCS "know" one another but have never met unless you have been lucky enough to attend a convention, trade show, shoe box swap etc.... Da' Man.... DAVEN!! (SCS Cupcake Reception)

I still have more pictures from the SCS Cupcake Reception, CHA and of the Make 'n Takes that I will be posting in the following days.

Altered Business card tin

I am headed to CHA here in a few days and need something to hold my business cards that I made. Mom and I happened to check out the $1.00 Spot at Target last week and found this cute little 'lunchbox' tin. (They had other colors/candies but I was wanting some LemonHeads!)

The Try a New Technique today was to do the Grid Technique. I don't own a score pal but do have a scorer blade that goes on my Fiskar trimmer. I stamped the Print Pattern in Brocade Blue on to Brocade Blue paper and then scored the Print Pattern. The image, which is Annie LaPoint's Be Calm by MFT, was colored with watercolor crayons and inks. Sponging was done around the sides with Brocade Blue first and then Chocolate Chip. I managed to take off the handle so that I could put the ribbon all the way around the middle of the tin. I haven't added the handle back on yet as I'm not sure if I want to.

stamp: Annie LaPoint's Be Calm - MFT, Print Pattern; ink: black, brocade blue, chocolate chip; paper: brocade blue, chocolate chip, vanilla; accs: ribbon, scorer bladee, sponge

Brainwave Challenge #14

It's Wednesday so that means it is Brainwave Challenge time! This time around, Ashley has come up with a cute sketch for the challenge. Don't forget to use the keywords, BWC14, if you upload to SCS. Please play along, any stamps are allowed, they don't have to be Treehouse stamps but hey, if you have Treehouse stamps, why not use them.

I decided to make a short long card. I also liked the color challenge from yesterday on SCS that I used those colors again! I used Simply Organic from Treehouse. Embossed the flowers in clear and then watercolored them with Groovy Guava and sponged the edges with all three colors (barely banana, groovy guava, chocolate chip). Now I don't own a Craft Chocolate Chip pad so how was I able to emboss? I stamped the image first in Versamark and in my classic Chocolate chip pad and then stamped on the cardstock! Poured on the embossing powder and embossed! Added a little saying at the bottom (still Simply Organic set) and then added some grosgrain ribbon with a little bow.

stamp: Simply Organic; paper: chocolate chip, groovy guava, barely banana, very vanilla; ink: barely banana, groovy guava, chocolate chip, versamark; accs; clear embossing powder, aquapainter, ribbon, sponge

Don't forget to check out the other ladies of Treehouse Stamps to see what they did for the Brainwave Challenge!

4-H project and a Sympathy card

As promised, here is a picture of Allie (8) wearing her skirt that she made for 4-H. She also made the purse. Her headband matches (hard to tell in the picture) her skirt. Judging is next monday for sewing.

I needed a sympathy card so I used the color challenge and Julee's Mojo Monday sketch to make a quick card. Color challenge was chocolate chip, barely banana and groovy guava. I love this combo!

I used SU's Close As a Memory and Warmest Regards. I left off one of the flower by inking up only half the stamp with the groovy guava pad, using the aquapainter to take the ink off where i did not want it and then going over the stems with the chocolate chip marker. I also used just the flowers on the Barely Banana cardstock by inking up just the flowers with Barely Banana marker. Around the image I distressed with inks by sponging on barely banana first, then groovy guava and then just around the edges I used Choclate Chip.

stamp: SU Close As a Memory, Warmest Regards; paper: chocolate chip, groovy guava, barely banana, white; ink: groovy guava; accs: markers - chocolate chip & barely banana, white gel pen, hodgepodge hardware, polytwill ribbon, sponge, corner round punch (for scallops)
